‘Fringe’ execs: ‘New season about consequences’ (Spoiler)
Fringe showrunners Jeff Pinkner and Joel Wyman have dropped new hints about the upcoming fourth season.
Pinkner told The Hollywood Reporter that future episodes will see the show’s characters “dealing with the consequences” of their past actions.
“Season three was about Walter (John Noble) truly coming to terms with the consequences of the damage that he had done,” said the producer. “[The season finale was about] Peter (Joshua Jackson) recognising that… Olivia (Anna Torv) was going to die in 2026 and he made the heroic choice to avert that outcome.”
Pinkner added: “Now all of our characters, we find them in a place where we’re dealing with the consequences.”
Co-producer Joel Wyman revealed that the sci-fi drama’s fourth run will introduce “a couple of newer themes”.
“We’re just taking you down the road a little further on the journey,” he said. “You’ll be able to see people from the past and you’ll be able to meet new people throughout the season.”
The pair also explained the decision to promote Seth Gabel (Lincoln Lee) to a series regular.
“We just fell in love with him, which is why we wanted to bring him back,” said Pinkner. “Thus far, we’ve spent very little time with one version of him, the Lincoln Lee [in the original universe], so I think that we’ll probably want to explore his character as well.”
Fringe star Anna Torv (Olivia) previously said that Gabel’s new role on the show “excites” her, calling the actor “a treat to work with”.
Fringe will return to Fox on September 23.
